Medicare Eligibility Requirements

For many, qualifying for Medicare simply means turning 65. Beyond the age requirement, there are situational circumstances that may arise and qualify different individuals as well, including those who are:

  • Under 65 and permanently disabled
  • Under 65 with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease)

In order to qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident for at least five years.

There are circumstances that determine if you are automatically enrolled or have to sign up.
